Wow, the tornado audio footage is chilling at the very least. Thank you Tom and Kevin.

But..but, what if we don't WANT to be fixed up? Seems like I just got rid of the "baggage" I had, girls!
You married ladies and your projects....lol!

We kids were in New Jersey for the summer when that hit. My dad was home. We lived on E. 66th Street, in Park Plaza South. He stood on the front porch and watched it come, until the flying debris got to be too much. When we came home from NJ that August, he brought us over the hill on 71st Street so we could see the path (new roofs).I remember tornado warnings all the time out there. We don't get a whole lot of that here in SC.

And yeah, why do the married folks always want the single ones to be not so single, lol!?

Kevin, great job on this site. It is so fun to go down memory lane and see what everyone is doing. I don't know if I will be able to come to reunion 'cuz we have a trip to the Bahamas planned for my daughter's graduation. My daughters (raised in PA) are so curious about tornados they are going to get a kick out of the short flicks. Everyone in the Northeast is so intrigued by tornados! They are amazed when I tell them I've been in 8. 1974 wasn't that the one that hit the houses on South Harvard 71st or 81st? They painted the words on sheets "Gone with the Wind". Wow many moon ago! Kevin thanks again for the website, you did a great job. I noticed John Price is not on the list, anyone know where he is? look forward to catchin' up on news.

Thank you for all the NO votes concerning the survey! ha

Kathy Pittman (Patrick)

Steve...I voted yes. I figure it was one of those things I missed, and it certainly made a BIG impression on those who were there, so we should do it again for everyone who missed it. Just kidding of course, but the response has been fun to watch.

RE: YouTube Aud
There was an assembly at Nimitz to discuss weather and play this. It was more eerie to listen to with the lights down in that asbestos ridden auditorium. I remember that they explained the tape player was set to record a television show for a BSA project.

I've seen 2 tornados: one that leveled Plaza 3 Theater and one that leveled a church at 15th & Memorial,(it skipped 2 blocks from my house where it topped trees and pulled the squares of awning from a Curts station, then went on to level Bruce's Truck Stop. (I saw the awning flying and thought it was birds!)

Anyone want to share their tornado siting count?

On another subject: Anyone remember tossing pencils up to stick in the Nimitz ceiling?

The venues look awesome for the event. It will be great to catch up with everybody. I have already had a good time catching up by phone and email with several classmates. The out of state slackers say thanks to all for the hard work.

Kevin, Thanks for including the Nimitz/Mason grads on this list. It is great to catch up with friends from the 3 lost Nimitz years. Great site! You did a great job. Thanks Kelly

Kevin,
"None of us have little kids" - Speak for yourself - you must be OLD! I'm still chauffering around 2 kids - just glad I'm not changing diapers!!!!!!!

As near as I can tell, Clel is winning the oldest dad award :)

Doesn't matter about the park, you are doing a great job, so keep it up.

Connie,

That was my parents' church at 15th and Memorial. I've always been a bit afraid that it was my fault the church got hit by the tornado.

I had visited the week before (Easter maybe?) and thought, we really need new carpet in this sanctuary. I guess God took my thought as a prayer because the next week the sanctuary was destroyed by the tornado. They not only got new carpet, but a new sanctuary.

Careful what you wish for :)

We need to have a picnic. I was so looking forward to some of you "grand parent types" to help chase my daughter who will have just turned 2 at the time of the reunion. Hump has helped with the chase and can verify she is a cool kid. The funny thing about it is I don't even feel or think I am an old dad, even though I suspect I will be on the front row of her graduation(I do hope I live that long). I guess I am still fooling myself even after 30 years.

Joyce,
Isn't it odd the way things turn out? I'm so glad no one was killed at the church. My ex-husband, at that time, was employed by a plumbing company, Rose, about 75 yards west of your Dad's church. Only a few pieces of the carport were pulled by the same force that reduced the church to splinters!

Kevin, you have done a great job with all of this. It has been so much fun catching up with people. Can't wait for July. DeAnn Sims

Hey, Grissomites - if you are on Facebook, take a look at the Grissom group (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=8473966065&ref=mf). Remember Mrs. Cunningham? She's on Facebook! Probably my favorite teacher from Grissom (remember "Where the Red Fern Grows"?).

Hey, I think we have a competition going on here....

"Who can update their profile the most"....

and the contestants are...

Kathy "Scooter Chick" Oxley and Gary Koester

Ha! I have to admit that Gary's takes the lead as "most hilarious". Haven't changed a bit have you Gary? You're still a freaking hoot!!! ;)

03/17/09 02:31 PM #54

Danise Bell (Cox)

You are a freakin nut Gary and please keep the funny photos coming....

Oh btw...the word is spelled "caught" not "cought" but hey Gary, none of us can hold it against you. After all you did attend Memorial HS (that should explain alot)....roflmao

;)

Kevin Wood

Gary,

To answer your previous question, we will let the GED thing slide if you can show proof you are currently enrolled in some truck driving school or under the care of a licensed health care professional... It all good.

Yea Danise, I was noticing the daily update thing too...even more interesting than the individual signing up under other peoples names and using the fake email! I clear them off at least twice a week!

Kevin

Hey, Gary...

Are those your cows?

03/22/09 04:18 PM #57

Kathy Oxley (Levin)

Ok Sister(Danise Bell), I keep updating because I keep finding spelling errors, as I'm a terrible speller. Since you've taken the time to notice all my updating, thanks for telling me about all my spelling errors, you could have saved me some time!

Kathy "Scooter Chick" Oxley

P.S. I updated this message, once so far, does that count in the competition?

03/23/09 09:01 AM #58

Danise Bell (Cox)

Hey, hey, hey, chill sista! The only reason I noticed that you update alot is because there's a list that shows who has updated recently and I just noticed that your name is up there the majority of the time. I never noticed any typos on your part girl~ No biggie...xoxox

I know, I know, I was just giving you a hard time.

Hey, the reunion venue looks really fun...esp. the Friday night place. I assume it will be casual and Sat. will be simiformal.

Have a GREAT week!
