In Memory

Mike Humphrey

Mike Humphrey

Mike passed away due to health complications after open heart surgery, blood clots, COVID-19 and pneumonia.

He most recently resided in the Houston area but there will be a Celebration of Life service at a later date in Tulsa. We will keep everyone posted once details are solidified.

Rest in peace, friend!

Mike Was an amazing guy. He came from a great family with wonderful parents and siblings. He survived a lot of tough things during his life and it just seemed like he was invincible. So sad for his family and all that loved him. He will be dearly missed.

Reposting this from Facebook: Just got word that my old classmate Mike Humphrey has passed away. Although I haven't been close to Mike for years, I sure remember about a million days at football practice with him and everything we went through on the field together. But my favorite memory of Mike has to be at Halloween when we were maybe 14-15 I suppose. There was a group of us guys that all headed out to trick or treat and cause trouble. Somehow we ended up walking up to The Falls apartments, which is memorable for it's giant rock waterfall and small water pond at the entrance to the complex. I think the waterfall was turned off (suprise...it wasn't a real waterfall!), and a layer of smooth foam had built up on the water in the pool around it. In the dark, it looked like they had filled in the water feature with cement and Mike jumped up on the rock edge and stepped out onto what he thought was cement. It was still three-feet deep water and he plunged into the foamy water, candy bag and all. He was soaked from head to toe and I don't think we stopped laughing for hours. He was freezing at this point because it was starting to get chilly at night. And we had to walk him back home that way, which was not really close by. I still remember the look on his face as his foot started sinking into the water and he got the shock of his life. Godspeed Mike. Condolences to your family.

Sad to hear. He was a heck of a football player. As tough as they came.

Mike was truly a gentle giant, a benevolent soul, displaying not a hint of arrogance even though his athletic prowess was deserving of a bit of self-importance.  I recall football coaches encouraging Mike to be more aggressive, mean, but it just wasn't in his nature, Mike was preordained to be a nice guy, possessing an easy smile, disarming countenance.

It saddens me to read from a previous post Mike went through some difficult times but it is safe to say we all do at some point. One thing I know for certain however Mr. Humphrey faced adversity with selfless courage, made those around him at ease, bringing joy and laughter to loved ones and friends.

Rest in peace Mike.
