Harlan was a gentle soul and a true friend. We had great times in my 67 VW Bus parked in the North Forty before school. Some of you will know what I am talking about! I lost touch with him in later years and I wish I had been there for him at the end. From the news stories, it seems he passed afraid and alone. I will always remember his laugh, his extreme courage in being openly gay and the nights at the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Being extremely shy myself, I will always appreciate his friendship and acceptance of me for simply being myself. His favorite album was Red Octopus. It has taken me a long time to write this. I don't know if anyone remembers him or even cared. I am sure we were considered freaks and strange kids but we were just trying to cope with life as best we could. He opened my eyes to a whole different world that I didn't even know existed and I will be forever grateful to this unique human being. You are remembered.
