Joey was in my homeroom in 7th grade at Nimitz and I would call him Walter Matthau because he reminded me of him...which I meant in a good way...he was so funny in the Odd Couple! Anyways, Joey was a good sport about it because he signed my yearbook "Walter Matthau"!

I went to school with Joey from Carnegie to Nimitz to Memorial. I remember him well as he was always hanging out with Robert Lawrence, Dave Flaxbart and they were always exchanging in some witty banter about something.

At Carnegie, this bunch wrote and produced a hilarious newspaper.... created this whole fake thing about "flying spines"...pretty crazy out there stuff.

He did look like Walter Matheau....

Joe - we all called him Joey when we were younger - took his own life in 1985 or 86, if memory serves. I had not seen him since high school. He was a sweet, troubled kid.

Joe and I had Rutledge for art in our senior year. We became friends and decided to room together at OSU. He was a great guy. We had a lot of fun. I dragged him along to my Aunt and Uncle's house on the weekends. They lived about 15 miles South of Eskimo Joe's and they adored Joe Beshara.

Joe found a girlfriend. Her name was Carol (I believe). He was head over heals in love with her. They dated for a couple of years.

I moved off campus and Joe moved in with my cousin in Scott Hall. They eventually moved off campus. Carol decided to move on without Joe and he never really recovered. He was never quite the same.

I left Stillwater, so the following strange story is an account of the events that was compiled from friends, my family members, and a police report.

One day, Joe got into a meaningless argument with an overly zealous postman. I had been told that this guy was always complaining about something. The letter carrier turned the focus of the conversation toward a plant growing in Joe's backyard. The civil servant threatened Joe that the plant was illegal and he would return with the police. I do not think Joe was even aware of the plant.

When the police arrived, Joe was in his bed. He had died from a gunshot wound to his head. None of us were aware that Joe even owned a gun. It was deemed to be a self inflicted wound.

I think Joey really died from a broken heart.

Joey, did have a great sense of humor, later in elementary school and in Junior High, we would meet over at Robert Lawrence's house in the summer and play poker for hours. All matches would always end with each throwing the chips at each other. He had a dry since of humor and was great to be around.

I hope that postman is aware of that little thing known as KARMA...it'll bite you in the ass every time.

May he rest in peace.
